14" x 6" Return Air Grille, white. This is the cover for a return duct opening, the side that pulls air back into the system, usually the larger opening in a hallway or ceiling. It has no damper and no filter slot, because restricting a return is what makes a system noisy. Sized to the duct opening behind it, not to the old faceplate.

The mounting kit is in the box. Hold the grille over the return opening, mark the screw holes, and fix it to the duct flange or drywall anchors. The faceplate overhangs the opening on all four sides. There is no damper: a return must not be restricted.

Wipe clean with a damp microfiber, and vacuum the louvers when you change the furnace filter: a return grille is where household dust collects. Avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh solvents.

Free standard shipping on US orders $49+. Orders placed before 1pm PST on a business day ship the same day; after that, the next business day. We ship Monday to Friday. We don't ship internationally at this time.

30-day return window. Item must be unused, in original packaging, with proof of purchase. Customer is responsible for return shipping (non-reimbursable, deducted from refund). We ship within the United States only, and not to Alaska, Hawaii or US territories; email us and we will price those properly.

Why this product

Built to drop in and stay quiet.

Heavy-gauge louvers

Heavy-duty stamped steel with a matte white powder-coat. The 40-degree fins are stamped to stay rigid, so the face does not drum while the system pulls air.

No damper, by design

A return pulls room air back to the furnace. Restricting it only makes the system work harder, so there is no damper here and there should not be.

Matches the supply side

The same matte white as our wall supply vents, so a supply and a return in one room read as a set.

Install

Mounting kit in the box.

Everything you need to hang it is in the box, and there is no damper to set.

01

Measure the opening

The duct opening behind the old grille, not its faceplate. Width first (shorter dimension), then length.

02

Take the old one off

Back out the screws and lift the grille away. Vacuum the opening while it is exposed.

03

Fit the mounting kit

Hold the grille over the opening, mark the holes, and fix it to the duct flange or drywall anchors.

04

Check the airflow

No damper to set. If the louvers whistle, the return is undersized for the system, not the grille.

FAQ

Before you order

Measure the duct opening behind the old grille, not its faceplate. Match it to the duct opening row in Specifications above. The faceplate overhangs the opening on all four sides, and the mounting kit is in the box.

White, powder-coated. A matte white, the same finish as our wall supply vents, so a supply and a return in one room look like a set. The product photos show the actual finish.

Yes. Light scuff with 220-grit, wipe clean, prime with a bonding primer, then paint. Most standard interior paints hold well on the powder-coat. Spray rather than brush if you want the angled fins to stay crisp.

No, and it should not have one. A return grille pulls room air back to the furnace or air handler, and restricting that only makes the system work harder. Dampers belong on the supply side, where you are balancing air into a room.

Return. This is the large opening that pulls room air back to the furnace or air handler, and it never carries a damper. If your opening blows air out, you want a supply vent.

Excellent materials and a great price—it’s a definite improvement over the old one I had before. Highly recommended, and as usual, lightning-fast shipping from Amazon.

Perfect fit

Before I bought my condo, the previous owners had the bright idea of taking a paint sprayer gun and just covered every wall, outlet, vent, and ceiling with beige paint. I have been just gradually working through every room and replacing all of these things as well as repainting everywhere. It took a lot of work, but I managed to chip the caked on, super thick beige paint enough to turn the screws and peel it off of the wall. At first, I thought it would repaint it, but I decided against that as soon as I saw this vent. It fit perfectly over the duct opening, and the two screws lined up with the previous vent. It is a simple vent, but it looks nice and looks good with the sage color I painted the walls.IMy bedroom AC vent is located near the ceiling and I know the grates should point down, but that angle shows the inside of the duct and the ugly mess of beige. So I installed it upside down. Not sure how that will affect how the air flows leaving the vent or if it will hinder lowering the room temperature, but it looks much better. I think my photo shows them pointing down, but had to change

Exactly As Described

I ordered this for our bathroom. It is as described. It is stamped clean, no sharp edges. No scratches. It is the correct size. Screws are included. I love that the screws are painted white to match it. It looks so much nicer with the painted screws. I always think a project looks half done when the screws are not painted.I am happy with this product.

Solid, simple, does the job

Installed this without any drama—hardware was included, finish looks good, and it fits like it’s supposed to. Nothing flashy, but that’s kind of the point. Feels sturdy and should hold up well. If you need a no-nonsense return grille, this one gets it done.
